From 2013 through 2016, I began a transition from an old life to a new life.  My old life contained a worldview that no longer worked for me.  I struggled to find a new direction in which to go because my worldview was incorporated into my identity.

In the spring of 2016, I dreamed that I finished a triathlon and greeted loved ones on a beach.  I kissed my wife and another loved one who was holding a brand new baby.  It was after that experience that I decided to step into the world of triathlon.  For someone who grew up playing baseball and was never a swimmer, cyclist or a runner this would present a challenge that I could pour myself into.  This is how I became to be a triathlete.

I have been married to my wonderful and gifted wife, Shanna, for over twenty years.  Together we have built businesses, raised and fostered many fur babies, and cared for each other through sickness and health.

GARDNER SPORT was created to journal my experience into the world of triathlon.  I created it in the summer of 2016 and my first race under that banner was the TRI Key West Triathlon in Key West, FL.

I choose a shield as part of the logo to capture the battle that one faces with the training to become to a triathlete.  I choose three stripes to represent the events of the triathlon.  I choose Sport because of my admiration of Audi Sport and it's endurance racing program which includes its 13 wins at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Jacksonville Jed was a dopey red Doberman Pinscher whom my wife and I had the privilege of raising.  He came to us by way of Doberman rescue when a family in Alabama found him.  He was an amazing dog who loved everyone.  In February 2016, Jed was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.  He would end up living about six more months.  Three days before my second race we made the decision to put him to sleep after it became apparent his heart could no longer sustain his life.  I carried his collar in that race on my bike and placed first in age-group. Since that race, I have referred to the bike I am racing on as Jeddy One.
